Peter Machinist Headlines SBL Program Highly respected scholar of ancient Israelite cultural history, Peter Machinist is the featured plenary speaker for the Society of Biblical Literature at the upcoming SWCRS meeting. Machinist, the Hancock Professor of Hebrew and Other Oriental Languages at Harvard University, will present a lecture entitled “World Imperium and the Biblical Prophets: A Literary and Historical Challenge.” His research and teaching are especially concerned with the comparative study of cultures, including the ideology of imperialism and other forms of group identification. Machinist serves on the Faculties of Divinity and Arts and Sciences at Harvard. The SWCRS proudly welcomes Professor Machinist to Texas. Otto Maduro Presents AAR Plenary
Leading Latino philosopher and sociologist of religion, Otto Maduro is the featured plenary speaker for the American Academy of Religion at the meeting. Maduro currently is Professor of World Christianity and Latin American Christianity at Drew
University. His longtime research interests have focused on the interrelation of religious traditions (the Christian churches in particular) and the yearnings for liberation among the economically, racially, culturally, and/or sexually oppressed peoples. Maduro currently serves as President of the American Academy of Religion. The SWCRS welcomes Professor Maduro to Texas and the meeting.
