2009 Meeting Summary

A total of 336 persons registered for the March 2009 meeting, which was held at the Marriott Hotel DFW North. Among these registrants, 174 were member faculty, and 128 were students. By organization, 117 were AAR members, 168 SBL, 25 ASOR, and 22 ASSR. Plenary addresses featured Dr. Carol A. Newsom, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Old Testament at Emory University, and Dr. Mark Juergensmeyer, Director of the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Exhibitors, using 28 tables, included Abingdon Press, American Bible Society, Baker Publishing Group, Baylor University Press, Continuum/T&T Clark, Eisenbrauns, Fortress Press, Hendrickson Publishers, InterVarsity Press, Society of Biblical Literature, Wipf and Stock Publishers, Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing, and Zondervan.

At the annual reception, outgoing SWCRS President Nadia Lahutsky (Texas Christian University) announced the SWCRS board's awarding of a Junior Scholar Grant to Prof. Michael Martin (Lubbock Christian University). Lahutsky also announced the 2009-2010 SWCRS officers:

2008 Meeting Summary

A total of 333 people participated in the 2008 meeting, which was held at the DFW-Airport Marriott hotel. One-third of these participants were student members. Major organization registration was 110 AAR members, 157 SBL members, 21 ASOR members, and 11 ASSR members. A record 17 exhibitors were represented.

Highlights of the meeting include an AAR plenary address by Emilie Townes, an SBL plenary address by Dale Allison, and a new plated luncheon for all SWCRS attendees.

At the awards ceremony, William H. Bellinger, Jr. (Baylor University) received the John G. Gammie Distinguished Scholar Award. Two faculty received Junior Scholar Grants: Rebecca Raphael (Texas State University), for her project "The Anomalous Body in Late Antique Judaism: Hebrew and Aramaic Texts;" and Eric A. Mitchell (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary), for his project "The Tel Gezer Regional Survey."
